I started going after I started having sex to get on bc and to be regularly tested for stds I was in a committed relationship but I wanted to be sure I was clean.

Typically if you are needing birth control, you'll have to be seen yearly for a physical. They do not start pap smears until age 21, and while the pap only needs to be done every 2-3 years, I've still gotten a pelvic exam yearly. If you have a new or multiple partners since your last appointment they will usually do an STD check also.

With paps it's only once you've turned 21 or else it can be abnormal. Then its every 3 years if your normal. But that's with a normal doctor. I'm going to the obgyn for the first time next month and it's because I need help with fertility.

It depends on the person. Some women have medical probs or could be prone to medical probs that require them to go at a younger age.
