How do you treat UTIs?

My best friend has recurring UTIs and I've only ever had one yeaaars ago so I feel pretty useless with it. She does see a doctor for it but it doesn't seem to help. She isn't sexually active right now but still gets them.

How do you treat them personally? How do you prevent them? Anyone managed to stop recurring UTIs?

I'm trying to get her to drink more water and try cranberry juice but she struggles to drink more than three cups a day and says she tried cranberry juice already but I'm not sure for how long or anything like that.

My pcp ended up sending me to a urologist when I developed recurring UTIs. She checked my bladder to make sure it looked normal, then put me on long-term antibiotics. I was on them 3x a week for two months, then 2x a week for two months. The idea was to kill the bacteria that was causing the infection, but wean myself off it slowly to allow the good bacteria time to take over. I've been off the antibiotics for a month now and so far so good.  No explanation for why they started or kept happening, just bad luck. In the meantime, she should drink as much water as possible and pee any time she feels the urge. Don't hold it, it fosters bacterial growth. Hope she gets relief!
