Breastfeeding question! How much time is enough?

I have a 6 day old, and he latched wonderfully from day 1. In terms of nursing time, I’m having a hard time figuring out what is enough. He will latch for 20 minutes altogether, sometimes 17-18 minutes and I worry it’s not enough. Currently, today he has had 6 wet diapers and 7 bowel moments, so he’s seems to be getting enough, right? I feed him approximately every 2-3 hours.

Sounds like hes getting plenty! I would just nurse on demand. Look for hungry clues when fussy and nurse as much and for as long as baby wants.

My lactation consultant told me, if the count is right you're doing fine. I went from nursing for over 30min to 15 or 8 per side. It depends on how much time passed between the feeds or how fast they let down. Sounds like you're doing perfect!

Sounds about right to me! Just keep feeding on demand. My guy built weight quick and probably could have gone longer than two hours but for the first 4 weeks I didn’t let him go longer than 2.5 hours to make sure he stayed on track. Now during the day he goes every 2 hours and then nighttime only does two feeds. One at a7:30pm then again around 2:30. Sounds like you’ll be headed to a similar path!
