How confident are you in your sexual knowledge?

A

I'm constantly surprised by some questions on here about the type of stuff I learnt in sex ed at around 9 years old. Everyone has gone through a different sex education system though so I'm not discouraging anyone from asking, please do! But it does scare me every now and then when someone posts about something and I'm sat there thinking "uhhh you're clearly not ready to be having sex" because their knowledge is seriously lacking in such important areas.

When I mean sexual knowledge I'm talking about this type of stuff:

-Understand female anatomy (no, your vagina is not on the outside, refer to it that way if you like but you should know the scientific terms for yer va jay jay area, kay? 😉) And yes, there's three holes down there, praise OITNB 👐

-Understand what is and isn't normal with a menstrual cycle. No, you're not going to pop out a baby racoon if your period is a day early. No, an asteroid is not going to kill us all because your blood is half a shade lighter than usual. Some things need extra knowledge but I mean the basics of having a menstrual cycle.

-Know how to have safe sex. Condoms. Dental dams. Consent. All that jazz.

-Know what to do if birth control doesn't work or you have a pregnancy scare.

-Know what to do about STI/STDs and how/where/when to get tested.

Just to clarify, this isn't a hate post! I just keep getting surprised by how poor some people's knowledge is and wanted to know some rough stats about it.

Personally I'd say I'm confident so I'm grateful to have a resource like Glow to turn to for quick questions every now and then :)
