C-Section. Which anesthesia you choose and why?

I would like to know your opinion if i ever needed to go through C-Section,  we will see an anesthesiologist in 2 weeks time to discuss.

It depends on how you get to the c section. GA will only be done under emergency circumstances, or if for some reason the epidural/spinal stops working (very rare!). If you already have an epidural, they'll continue with that, but if you don't they'll give you a spinal.

I only had an epidural because I was in labor for 40 hours and when I didn’t progress and it became dangerous then i has to have a c section. Never felt anything except pressure (but it was brief) I will have a c section with my second and I will elect for a spinal, because an epidural will not be necessary.

The difference between a spinal block and an epidural. When you have a spinal block, narcotics or anesthetic is injected once with a needle. For a epidural or combined epidural, a catheter is placed in the epidural space to allow continuous anesthesia. As for general anesthesia The only reason they would do General for a c section is because of an emergency situation. Also with general anesthesia you are completely asleep you won’t get to hear or see your baby until you wake up. Sometimes that can take hours.

I don’t know if it depends on the hospital but you don’t get to decide normally. You automatically get a spinal for a scheduled c section. If it’s an emergency then it’s general.

I had an epidural after being in labor for 36 hours and pushing for 5 then I was rushed into emergency c section and had to be put to sleep.

I had a spinal for my emergency csection. The baby had stopped responding, I was pre-eclamptic and my heart rate was all over the place. A lot of scary stuff was happening. He said normally in that situation they would offer some drugs to relax you further, but since I was calm they gave me the option of being awake and fully alert so I took it. 
 I was able to hear my baby cry and see him and hold him relatively quickly after. 
Really nothing hurt, you just feel a lot of pressure like an elephant sitting on your chest. 
It was a great experience (The pain afterwards wasn’t even as terrible as I thought it was going to be). Even though it didn’t go as planned I still get to remember everything and I’m satisfied with a healthy happy little man.

I had a spinal with emergency section and I felt no pain at all I was in the operating room a while due to complications and it did not wear off at all took ages in recovery to wear off and it’s best as you don’t feel the pain for longer xxxx
