Pcos?

My doctor took my blood work because I was having irregular periods, she did a pelvic exam (by hand not ultrasound) she said all felt completely fine and normal. If I had pcos would It have shown up in my blood work? She thinks I’m Irregular because I’m overweight. Btw-all my blood work was normal

There is no blood test for PCOS. So no.

You need an ultrasound to see if you have polycystic ovaries. I was diagnosed last week with it, on the ultrasound they found over 10 tiny cysts on one of my ovaries, and didn’t even bother to count how many were on the other. The ultrasound techs exact words were “ I’m not a doctor but I’m willing to bet money that the doctor will tell you you have PCOS”.  and  I also have multiple other symptoms. The blood test, as it was explained to me, is to check your hormone levels, sugar and cholesterol to see if any additional medication is needed to help manage the symptoms.

You can test for PCOS with AMH level as well as through general OB panel. Work on weight loss first because it would be an easy fix compared to needing meds if you aren't really needing it at this time (I'm not sure what yiur situation is). Could be that gyn wamts you to try on your own for a little bit longer before recommending meds?

While there isn't a specific test, PCOS can be diagnosed initially with blood work. They order a hormone panel. PCOS is identified with low FSH and high testosterone. The hormone panel also helps to exclude other causes (thyroid issues). The ultrasound is generally to confirm the diagnosis. I worked with a Reproductive Endocrinologist, went through this process and was diagnosed accordingly.
