When to start trying again?

Question

My husband and I had a beautiful baby boy in May. He had some health complications and passed away on June 3rd. We want a child so badly. But I don't want to feel like I'm replacing the baby I lost.  I haven't started my cycle since given birth.  I think I should wait to start trying til after my first cycle? Any ladies have been through this or have advice on what I should do?

Talk to your doc.  You body needs some time to recover from the pregnancy and replenish its supply of vitamins etc.  I don't look at it as replacing a child you lost, but as celebrating his life by giving him a little brother/sister.  You are the only one that knows what is right for your family.

So sorry for your loss, I can't imagine what you must be going through! My thoughts are with you!! Having another baby can absolutely help the healing process. I would wait till you have a cycle again though because you may not ovulate until then. Good luck momma!

I lost my baby april 2nd. We haven't found out what went wrong exactly so we aren't trying for awhile until we know. And hopefully won't happen again. Do you know what sort of complications he had? My boyfriend is also not ready to talk about it. So I figure id give him six months and hopefully we take about it and try again. But everyone's different. I feel like I just want something to look forward to again. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Give it time, let your mind, body and soul heal before you start again. I've had many baby losses and I will tell you from my experience that you need time.

So very sorry for your loss, can't even imagine how you are feeling.

I think there's a waiting period of 5-8 weeks after birth before you should have sex again (it wasn't apparent when your son was born) but other than that I don't see why you shouldn't start having unprotected sex if you feel like it. You ovulate before your first period, so if you are ready you might catch that first egg :)

I lost my son in February of 2013 at 2 months, and I don't think anyone can give you an answer. I had my rainbow baby a year later and I still cried and had to talk to a counselor when he was born. I felt like we were replacing the child we lost, thought he was looking down upset at us... All kinds of negative things. Years later I still miss him and cry almost everyday. I would suggest talking to your husband at length about it, I didn't and my husband wasn't ready to have another baby yet but thought it would help me. We have had many counseling sessions about it since. So sorry for your loss, and I hope you guys figure out what's best for you and your family.

I'm sorry. My best advice is to wait until your ready. Give it till your cycle starts and then start to track and maybe talk it over with your spouse and if you both agree wait for the next cycle just so your sure. Like take the time to really think about it. Also discuss with your Dr how long you should wait to allow your uterus to heal. I think it's somewhere close to 9 months after delivery your uterus is fully back to normal.
