How many embryos?

I am young 28 and DH is 29. Our only issues are my fibroids and we are starting ivf. The doctors recommend only transferring one because of the risk of multiples but DH and I are leaning more towards 2. I am a twin and my mom had the same issues and ended up having a hysterectomy after we were born so that adds to my desire to transfer 2. I feel like my heart is saying 2 and my head is saying 1. What would you do?

We only transferred 1 because it was really good quality and that's all the doctor recommended. We trusted our doctors advice and it worked out and the one embryo took :) really though you should wait to find out the quality of your embryos before making any decisions. We could have done 2 but I would have had to sign something that said I was going against my doctors advise and I wasn't comfortable doing that.  Good luck with everything!

Hey Breann, if I'm right, you're yet to start your first IVF cycle? If that's the case, firstly I'm sorry you have to go down this path. It's tough but geez it makes us tough!

Secondly, my advice is to not worry about the number of embryos you're transferring until it's time. There are so many factors - how your body responds to the meds, the quality and number of embryos you get, if you get any to freeze etc.

IVF is best to be broken down into chunks with milestones along the way. You'll do great, and you'll get through it.

We are doing two. I'm 32 and DH is 45. This is our only pregnancy. We won't go through ivf again. 2 is our best odds of having at least 1 stick.

Go for 2 better odds.  If you get 2, that's just a bigger blessing from God!

I transferred two at age 26 because its what my husband and i felt was best for us and our circumstances. We ended up pregnant with just one which I am beyond happy about im thankful for any success of a healthy baby. Transferring two doesn't mean two will take could only be one or even worse neither so I say go with your gut and do what's best for you. Good luck!
