Electric bill went up without using it?

Okay so last month our electric bill was $75. The only thing in our house that we pay electric for it lights and heating and stuff. 
We’ve been on vacation for the last month. Heat was off, lights off, unplugged everything, and now they sent us the bill saying this months is $150! That seems crazy. We were literally home for one day this month. We don’t have TVs in our house, or a washer and dryer. We don’t pay for water. All we did while we were home that one day was turn on some lights, clean and leave. I’m so confused 😩 can anyone help understand why its so expensive?

Call them. Some company assume your usage based in past usage. Ask them to come out and take an actual reading. Or just have them check. One month I had a bill of $300 when my normal is $110 and when they checked, my normal usage is between 500-600 (whatever unit of measure they use) and that month they had in 1600. The meet guy had bad handwriting and they thought there was a 1 in front when there wasn’t. So they credited me the difference. But if i never called, they never would have found out.

Sometimes the rate per KWH is higher if
You use less. For us it’s 11cents per KWH if we use 2000 but it’s 13cents if we use 1000 and 15cents if we use less than 1000.

I would call and have them come do a reading to make sure it's accurate. If it is, maybe your neighbors were using your outside outlets while you were out of town?
