Membrane sweep at 38weeks?

So I was wondering if I should ask my midwife for a membrane sweep on my next appointment. I would be 38 weeks. Did anyone else get a membrane sweep this early? Ive been 1cm dilated for the past week.

I had one at my last apt and I was 39 weeks. I don’t see an issue with 39 weeks obviously it’s up to your doctor. Mine still hasn’t done much. I’ve lost more of my mucus plug and cramped some with back pain but really that’s it. I’ll go back at 40 weeks and if I’m not progressing. I’ll get another sweep and if that doesn’t do much I may be getting induced. Good luck!!!

Nope.... baby and body will decide when the time is right. If we start getting close to 42 weeks, then we will talk sweeps.

Yeah where I live they only do them when you actually hit 40 weeks. I’m already 3cm dilated, 60% effaced, and she said my cervix was “soft and favorable” but still didn’t do one since I’m only 38 weeks. And I’m fine with that. I’ve heard they’re very uncomfortable and I’m hoping I’ll keep progressing well on my own

Mine offered to give me a sweep at 38 weeks, but because of family history and medical reasons. They don’t want me to go over my due date. Good luck x

I’m not sure if they will that early or will be able to at that dilation. My midwife told me yesterday at my 39 week appointment that she couldn’t because I was only 1 cm. I would just consult your doctor/midwife.

I got a sweep done yesterday at my 38 week appt but my OB said he would only do it if there were other indicators that labour was close. The sweep helps release hormones that help soften things up but if you’re too far off it’s just uncomfortable for no reason as your body isn’t ready. I was 2cm dilated, 75% effaced, baby was low at -1 station and cervix was very soft so he said it was appropriate to do one. He also said doing them when it’s appropriate helps women go into labour before they become overdue. He seemed picky as to when a sweep was warranted. Good luck!
