I'm literally always getting big pimples like this. My dad has a history of acne. But he's the only one out of his whole family. And my mom is flawless. I don't think I stress. I drink PLENTY of water. I've tried everything even Proactive. Help?

GO TO A DERMATOLOGIST!!! Certain products work great for some people but can be harmful to others and do worse or do absolutely nothing at all but waste your efforts and money. Some products are too harsh for fair skin like mine. Also keep in mind that your skin changes with age. For example, the same product you used in middle school (even if recommended or prescribed by a dermatologist) may not be working for you in college.

I had porcelain doll skin all through high school.  When I got into my 20s, my skin started going haywire. I tried everything. The things I would say that helped me get to where I am now:

Oil free moisturizer - I use this one from Clinique that is a gel creme and it's awesome. I think a lot of people stay away from moisturizer when they have acne, but if you get the right one, it can help your acne heal up quicker/prevent it from occurring in the first place.

Keep a food journal - I found that when I ate any type of nuts, peanut butter, dairy,  or high sugar foods, I was more prone to breakouts, especially cystic acne that hurt super bad.

Drink a ton of water and green tea.

I was taking Zinc and vitamin A for a bit and that seemed to make a slight difference.

If you try Proactiv, you must be consistent and stick with it for more than a month. Even if your skin seems super dry and flaky the first couple weeks. Everyone is different, but it's been my go-to for skincare since I was about 26. I'm 31 and still use it.

Try your best to not pick at your skin!

I've had chin acne since before puberty. It's a size of hormonal inbalance. Nothing over the counter will completely get rid of it. I've been on birth control for about 3 months now and they've gone down but haven't completely disappeared. So now, I'm looking into changing my diet and talking to a specialist.
