could I lose custody of my child if I went to a hope house or a women's shelter? I don't want to live with my sons dad anymore. He's abusive and I can't do it. He has a top of the notch lawyer his grandfather pays for... and if he wants to be a dick about it he will.

No. Seeking help wont get you punished. I was in a domestic violent relationship and after 3 times of cops coming out in as many weeks i got told that if i DIDNT leave, they would take my kids. So i left!
