IUD - what was your experience like? 😱

Hey y’all! I’ve been looking at different contraception options and I’m not sure which one to get. I’ve had the implant before and I didn’t like it. I’m currently taking the pill. I saw a video on the IUD insertion and I feel like it would be painful and uncomfortable. Can anyone please tell me if they have got it before and what was your experience like over time?

Also, what’s it like having sex when you have the IUD? Can’t it poke the guy’s dick? 😂 serious question though.

I have the Mirena! I just got it 2 weeks ago. I actually have another appointment tomorrow to check in on it. The insertion was painful for me, because sometimes they have to dilate the cervix (ouch) I had some painful cramps that day, and I’ve been having some back cramps these 2 weeks. I had one day of REALLY light spotting. I was in the pill, and it made me really depressed. I would take cramps over that any day! I recommend it!

I have the paragard and the insertion wasn’t what I expected. It was painful. I cried. I was afraid to move even LOL. But soon there after I got up got my self together and went home. Felt like a bad period cramp. That’s all. Went to sleep for a nap and woke up felt normal. First period on it was rough. That’s it. Everything else was fine. Sex first time was scary for me. But I got used to it as did my husband. I love it. I’ve had it for almost two years. So much better than forgetting a pill or having to stop my life because I need to swallow a pill. Also, I feel it’s the best protection. Highly recommend

I had the most horrible time with mine. Had the Mirena. Insertion was extremely painful and afterwards for several weeks I could hardly get up and walk around. I Basically bled for 9 straight months until I begged to have it taken out. Doc kept saying they wouldn't take it out until I'd had it for 8 months because that's so common it takes that long to get used to it.  Fuck that thing

I had the paragard IUD (Non hormonal) one put in a year ago. The insertion was painful (Like a really bad cramp) for 2 minutes and then I had mild cramps (On and off cause I took painkillers straight away) for 3 days. After that it settled down and has been perfect! It can make your period abit more irregular ( + or - a few days), but it doesn't have any extra hormones and works! Highly recommend if you can handle the initial pain of insertion.

I just got my Mirena taken out last week. I had it for  a year and I didn't like it. I felt bloated the whole time and I also had random spotting several times a month for the entire year. I just would rather have a period instead of not knowing when I'll bleed and having to wear a pantyliner every day. It just didn't agree with my body. Right now I'm letting my cycle adjust back to normal and then I may consider getting back on the pill. The only positive for me was that my migraines were much less frequent with the IUD.

I had a Mireya inserted. Twice. Both times they perforated my uterus and my bowel. So painful and so much bleeding. Took 8 months of pain before I was out of the “normal” pain period before anyone investigated and would do anything to help. I would never recommend it to anyone.

insertion was bad for me even with the medications previous. But more than worth it. And the IUD goes into the uterus so he shouldn't feel anything (maybe the strings if they haven't softened up yet)

Honestly I had a terrible experience I was suppose to get the Paraguard just went to my regular personal care provider and it hurt so bad they couldn’t get past the ending of my cervix to even get it in my uterus.
So I didn’t go through with it, I actually broke out in a sweat and fainted.

I have kyleena and have had it for over a month now. Insertion was painful for the first couple of days but after that everything has been really well, occasional spotting but it’s only if I have cramps so I know when it’s coming.
