Should I use ParaGard?

Question

Hey everyone! I’m currently on the shot and getting tired of the side effects that inevitably come with hormonal birth control. So I’m considering trying the copper IUD. 
Have you tried it? Why or why not? What experiences have you had with it?
My main concern is painful periods. My periods were always really bad, but I haven’t had one in almost a year since being on the shot.

To be honest my periods got worse when getting on the Paragaurd, and longer. However it’s really only a few days that my cramps are really bad, and nothing that can’t be relieved with a heating pad and some over the counter medicine. It also hurt like a BITCH when I got mine inserted so I would take some pain killers beforehand. All in all though I like it! Can’t beat 12 years of prevented pregnancy and to be honest I’ve been on many forms of birth control that made it so I didn’t have periods, and it wasn’t that great. I hated the hormones and I did not feel like myself so having the Paragaurd I feel more in tune with my body and I appreciate the regularity of my periods, and how natural it is. So I would say go for it but I would always talk to your doctor to see the best fit for you since there are so many options now!
