Should food stamps cover gardening supplies?

Question

For families who are eligible for food stamps, should they also provide a designated amount for people to grow their own food. Seeds, soil, planters, etc. fruits and veggies are obviously best for us, but families with limited incomes aren’t always able to buy fresh fruits and veggies. Should government assistance provide these families the ability to grow their own fresh fruits & veggies?

They already cover seeds. Any extra equipment, no. Food assistance  only covers food. 
If states wanted to do a test program of providing extra supplies from a separate funding pool, I would support it.

I guess. I just hope that doesn’t turn into people saying “you can buy seeds. Just plant your own food” lol. I don’t know how to garden and I have no interest in gardening. I wouldn’t blame someone on food stamps for feeling the same. Not everyone has time, energy, space, or the environment for gardening. Maybe it can be an optional thing. Gardening can also be very therapeutic.

They cover seeds already. Other stuff.. no because that is not food. They could be buying planters and soil for flowers and not even for food. Food stamps is for food.

I don’t see seeds being an issue. I mean they’re technically food. But tools and soil and such shouldn’t be covered imo. It’s not food

No because you can get the seeds from the food itself 
Plus there’s more supplies you have to get and it could be more costly in the long run

I like the idea of having a separate program for gardening. It could include classes etc. I think it should be separate from SNAP, though.

I think food itself should be covered. While its a wonderful idea to be able to grow your own food.  I'd  probably say there would be a large amount of people  who couldn't sustain themselves on it.  I personally,  can kill a cactus so I'd  have to pass.

With food stamps you already can buy seeds 🙄 they just have to be for food, and I would rather grow my own than get food grown from out of the country. Just because I’m poor doesn’t mean I don’t have the right to healthy food
