IUI!!!???

Question

Just saw our doctor this morning and hubby has low morphology and i have a left side that doesn’t really work .. she suggested trying IUI for 3 cycles before we do anything aggressive (IVF). Would like to hear all of your stories with IUI! Positive and negative 🙂

Hi there! So here’s my story about fertility assistance...
I’m a 34 y/o with PCOS. Never had a child, chemical pregnancy in December that lasted 72 hrs. Husband and I have been trying on our own since August ‘17. Went to RMA of Philadelphia in Feb and began my assisted fertility journey. 
It started with a huge blood panel that checked for every possible deformity and two genetic tests for cystic fibrosis and CMA. 
Internal ultrasound to check uterus- clear
Gave me meds to induce a cycle (it had been 51 days since my last period). Started the medication Letrozole on the first day of my cycle. 
Next was an HSG test to see if my Fallopian tubes were open. - a very uncomfortable procedure where they stick a catheter all the way up into the tube and inject dye. - cleared that test. 
Two more blood tests and uterine ultrasounds to determine the size of my follicles (this is done to predict ovulation). When they saw one follicle at 24 they ordered the trigger shot injection (Ovidrel), and told me to inject myself at 8 PM Fri (last week). - My LH Level was too low for my body to release the egg. The trigger shot did the job my body can’t do on a regular basis, ergo PCOS. 
Sunday of last week we met our Dr for the IUI procedure (artificial insemination). In 3 days I go for the blood test to see if the uterine lining is thick enough to hold a fetus. April 2nd is our Preggo test. 
My OBGYN told me meds would be all I need. Clomid has a high rate of multiple births that’s why we opted for Letrozole. She also said the IUI isn’t necessary to do right away, but most couples just go right into it for better odds. My insurance covered it, so I was fine with going forward. You can absolutely still have sex with IUI, in fact they encourage it. The process just eliminates the long journey to the egg, and also separates the good sperm from the weak ones. (My husband apparently has super sperm, 95% were all strong swimmers).

My husband has low morphology and I have diminished ovarian reserve. We did two IUIs with Clomid. Each time I only had one mature egg. It wasn’t successful for us. The doctor did say we would prob need to try a few more times to be successful. But due to my few eggs we decided to move onto ivf.

5 IUI’s failed and first IVF was a chemical pregnancy. 2nd IVF scheduled for May time frame. I’m going to try acupuncture this time around. It’s such a journey that you have to just try and stay positive and not stress so much about it. Two very difficult things to do but it will all be worth the struggles some day.
