Two Arizona teachers plan a sick-out that results in 9 out of 12 schools shutting down
Posting this because this happened not only in my state, but my old school district as well and I couldn't be more proud.

Two teachers who were frustrated with low pay and spending money out of their already low salary, planned a sick-out/rally at the state capital. Arizona is consistently near the bottom or at the bottom as far as pay for teachers goes nationally. Both teachers knew of collegues leaving the profession because the pay was so low. They decided to send a silent message.
The AEA was organizing a rally that was mainly intended for teachers on spring break. The teachers involved were on break the week prior. One of the teachers thought of calling out sick, going to the rally then coming back to school and moving on. At the end, 350 teachers in the Pendergast School District went on Wednesday forcing 9/12 schools to shut down for the day.
Dominguez went to her principal to tell him that teachers would call out for the rally and she got support from him. He told her to do what needed to be done. Students were also allowed to miss school without being punished.
My question here is, should these teachers be punished for calling in sick to go to a rally? Is this fair to the students? Should breaks be better planned so that all teachers can go to rallies like this without missing school or is it a better protest when school is missed?
