Missed miscarriage update - thanks for all your responses!
I posted a couple of days ago about my missed miscarriage - asking for advice on what option to take to complete the process.
Firstly, I wanted to say thanks to all who responded and shared their stories. It’s sad that so many of us go through this awful process but helps to know that we’re not alone. Secondly, I wanted to update anyone that was interested in what route I took and how it’s worked out so far - I thought it might be helpful for anyone in the same situation.
I chose the misoprostol option, mostly because it was available to me immediately and I didn’t want to have to wait a few days for a d&c.; I had the tablets inserted vaginally at the hospital and had to stay lying down for an hour afterwards. I was told this was not only the most effective way to do it but it ensured the medication absorbed thoroughly and lessened the side effects, which I think is true.
It took about an hour and a half to kick in. Then I started cramping, nothing too intense, just like a normal period. Then the bleeding started - this was more intense. I wasn’t prepared for the size and number of clots that I would pass and I found this part quite disturbing. The pain intensified somewhat but ibuprofen fixed this. The whole process lasted for about 6 hours or so. I only had one bout of nausea and sweating and felt ok the rest of the time.
Things have now calmed down considerably the next day and it just feels like a really heavy period with no cramps at all. I do feel really weak and tired though.
Now that it’s all done, I feel relieved and hopeful for the future.
For anyone going through this, I’m so sorry, it’s not fun at all, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
