Nana Spilled My Milk 😭😭😭
3-6 ounces all over my kitchen floor.
My mother is in town and she cannot handle it when my two month old cries. Like, keeps asking if “there’s something wrong with him” or if she’s done something wrong. To be clear he is fine. He is a baby. Babies cry. They can be clean, dry, fed, and napped and still pout and whimper and weep through your best efforts at soothing. Sometimes they cry at inconvenient times and you need to set them down for a moment and go do something else.
Last night we needed her to babysit so husband and I could go to a work function. We prepped everything in advance. One bottle ready to go, three ounces thawing, four ounces in a designated spot in the freezer. More than enough.
She burns through the milk because every time the he whimpers she tries to feed him. The woman refused to put baby down to prep because if she sets him down he might cry. TWICE she attempted to put the bottles together and twice she dumps the milk all over the floor. She then grabbed the largest packet of milk she could find, set it to thaw, and forgets about it. Feeds baby the few ounces that made it into the bottle.
We got home to a dazed baby, several empty milk packets in the sink. A sticky floor. Warm milk that’s been out for who knows how long. My mom has no clue any of this is a problem. She asks if we want her to thaw MORE milk because “eating seems to be the only thing that stops him from crying.” We did the math - she gave him or tried to give him nearly 16 ounce in five hours! He eats around three ounces every two. 🤦🏼♀️
God help me. I’m grateful she wants to help but she is so damn hapless I could scream.
