If a job no longer has work for you, should they let you go?

So, this may sound like a stupid question & it is.

My job that I’ve been at for a year now, just let me know that as of right now there was no work to be done (our computer systems are messed up/got hacked and I worked on the computers)

My boss told me that he would let me know in a few weeks if there would be any work. It’s been a month. I email him about twice a week, asking for updates and each time it’s a different reason why there are no updates. This week he’s in China???

So, what would you do in this situation? I can’t just wait around for a job, a girl has got to work.

But it’s awesome pay so I don’t want to quit if it really is going to come back around
