What should I tip?

Question

I’m getting a tattoo that is going to be about $300-$400 (3-4 hours of work). I was planning on tipping $50... but I’m so tight on cash rn im giving it second thoughts and maybe doing $25... A few people have said that $400 is expensive enough and I don’t need to tip? 
What do you guys think...
EDIT: thanks guys, I have a $50 bill but I’m going to stop and get another $20 for a $70 tip

I know tipping is a somewhat controversial topic but ALWAYS tip your artist!! If you can’t afford to give them a decent tip then wait until you have the money to do so. They’re putting a ton of time and effort into your piece especially if it’s one of that size. There’s a lot of work that’s done behind the scenes for you. $25 is almost a slap in the face to an artist doing a $400 4 hour piece for you. Give them the same percentage as you normally tip anyone else, I’d go with a solid 15-20% so like $60-$75.

You have to tip. Don't get the tattoo if you can't tip. The artist is not pocketing that $400, not even close to it. Tip 20% so $80.  If you're so tight for money don't get a tattoo then.

Tip at least 20%! My husband is an artist and it gets super frustrating when he works hours on something great and doesn't even get a tip. We have to live too!

You need to tip AT LEAST 20%. 25 tip is basically a spit in the face. Do you realize how hard doing tattoos is? Art is not easy, especially when it’s on to a live canvas. You try drawing on a moving person for 3-4 hours and see how it feels😂That 400 doesn’t go straight to them, they need tip.

I won't tip any less than 20%. But I usually do a little more because I use the same artist and he cuts me a break since I keep going back.
