should federal laws dictate car seat laws?

every state has their own laws on what age/ weight children should be rear facing in, forward facing, and when they can move to front seat. Since its a safety factor and cars cross state lines and all car seats are tested under 1 safety standard shouldnt all the car seat laws be the same

Yea I think they should. It’s not like one state has completely different traffic laws than another. Same with children. They are all roughly the same at some point in their life. Having some sort of universal law for this would make sense. It would also make it easier on parents who do travel through multiple states on vacations and road trips.

I don’t see why not. Child safety should be one of the most important things when it comes to being a parent. So I don’t get why anyone would have an issue with following the laws anyways. I think a lot of it is just lack of education on the topic

Yes and I’m my opinion parents, health professionals, police officers, emts, etc should all have mandatory car seat safety classes. It’s so important to install the car seat safely and buckle the child in correctly.

I think people in general need to be more educated on car seat safety. Forward and rear facing can get super confusing for a lot. My states law is 1 yr for rear facing and over age of 1 but the aap suggests 2 years so that's what we do. I've had mom friends go off at me for having her rear facing still. I think if every state was on the same page that would help but I really think education needs to improve.

Makes sense. This is probably a stupid question but what do you do if you have to cross state lines? Especially if you have to do it regularly? Just go with the strictest?
