Is having a professional photographer at a small baby shower a waste of money?

I really want a professional photographer for my baby shower that my MIL is throwing for me. The rest of my family think it's a waste of money but I feel like it's a way to capture the moment.  I know people can take pics with their phones but it's not the same. also I didn't take maternity pics so in my mind this will be a way to get pics of myself pregnant.  What do you ladies think?

I'd say take a few of just you before the shower  (maternity pics) plus photograph the event. If money isn't an issue for you, it shouldn't be for them. If money is tight, you can hire a student photographer vs professional. ...events tend to be somewhat easy to photograph.

It’s your money! And pictures last forever so I really think they are one thing that is never a “ waste” . I think it’s a great idea and  if you don’t do it because of what others think  you will regret it.  You do you!!

I think you can maybe justify it by finding a student photographer or someone who is just starting out (a friend or friend of the family perhaps). My sister has a friend who does photography part-time we only have to pay her $40 per session and she gives us 'oh my God' worthy photos!!! She goes and picks a location, does all the editing it's awesome!! Anyway maybe that's an idea that might fly with everyone ☺️

Do it! I wish I had, I got like one decent photo from my shower. Everyone made me pose for their cellphone shots, but they are all blurry or never made it back to me. If you have the funds, GO FOR IT!
