Zofran for morning sickness?

I know there are mixed feelings about taking this drug for morning sickness. My doctor prescribed it because my morning sickness has been debilitating. Do any of you have experience with this drug? What are your thoughts?

Okay so, don't let these women scare you. I've taken it since 10 weeks. I tried so many other forms of meds and nothing worked besides zofran. I'm now 22 weeks, have had a level 2 ultrasound done because I was also concern d and baby girl is perfectly healthy. Measuring perfectly, no heart problems and no cleft lip like some say it can cause. There aren't enough studies done on pregnant women to prove anything, despite it being a class c drug. The doctor said he's not at all concerned about me taking it. Where there is normally a 3-5% chance of birth defect, after seeing my ultrasound he said there is less than 1%.

I had to take it frequently because I was diagnosed with hypermesis gravetorium which is super bad. I was hospitalized 3 times due to dehydration because I couldn't keep anything down and almost got put on an infusion pump as well because I kept loosing weight. zofran was a miracle for me it was like night and day difference for me

I was so miserable with morning sickness I lost 15lbs in my first trimester. I was anti medication because there’s so much negativity and possible issues but I was frequently making trips to the ER for IV fluids and at a complete loss with what to do. I couldn’t enjoy pregnancy or bond with my baby. I couldn’t enjoy even sitting on the couch with my husband because I would be puking every 15 minuets (this is honestly not an exaggeration) so my doctor asked me to try zofran and it was a miracle for me. It drastically reduced my puking episodes and I just took it as needed for about 8 weeks. She gave me a script for 40 pills and I still have 10 left. I would still throw up usually first thing in the morning before I had the chance to get anything down but I could finally leave the house without stuffing grocery bags into my coat pockets. I’m now 23 weeks and have very minimal episodes of morning sickness and baby boy is right on track for everything. I would at least recommend you give it a try for a few days and see, everybody is different but it seriously changed things for the better in my case.

I’m an ER nurse, and we give Zoltan to preggo ladies all the time. It’s not a first choice (usually people try B6 and unison first) but it is fine to take.

I had to be on a Zofran pump for HG. I lost so much weight that my doctor said I was officially harming the baby. It didn’t fix everything, but it did help. The little man is now a week old and he’s doing well. He does have jaundice, which we are managing at home with light therapy. I found one study that said jaundice can come from a mother’s Zofran use, but I’m okay with it because he could have otherwise not made it from having no nutrition or hydration.

I had HG from 6 weeks to 24 weeks. I refused medication at first but at 10 weeks I gave in because it was literally killing me. By 20 week I was low in Iron, follate, B12, red blood cells and that was just what was tested for. I was so so weak. I wish I had taken it earlier. I'm 11 days from delivering baby now and I'm only just starting to get some of my health back now I can keep supplements down. My scan 2 days ago showed baby was around 7lb 4, absolutely perfect for its gestation.

I’ve had debilitating vomiting since 8 weeks, currently 29 weeks. My doctor still won’t prescribe it to me because they don’t trust it. But lots of doctors use it. I’ve just been taking a lot of unisom and only throw up about once a day now lol

I have HG and I tried all the natural remedies and other anti-vomiting drugs but nothing except Zofran worked. Before I started taking it, I was puking 10+ times a day and I was going 5-6 without eating, only barely able to keep down sips of water. I was too weak to support myself and I had to crawl back and forth to the bathroom. Sometimes I would just give up and sleep on the bathroom mat. Zofran literally saved my life. I had to take it daily from about 12 weeks- 22 weeks and after that only as needed. I haven't needed it at all the last month or so. My doctor said my options were to take it or to be admitted to the hospital (my friend had HG and spent her entire first two trimesters admitted to the hospital basically six whole months living at the hospital, not able to to home)

It’s somewhat risky to take if taken too often for too long it’s a class c rated drug. I would be ok with taking it on and off but not every day for 2 months... I had HG with my last 2 pregnancies and so far with this baby no sickness.

i haven't taken that kind but I do know just have a black up plan if they don't work every medication that's for morning sickness will work for a short time and then you'll still be sick after awhile of taking it. your morning sickness changes every week while your baby grows. best of luck!
