How to deal with sexual regret?

Have you ever regretted having sex with someone? How do you overcome it? I have never regretted having sex in my life until last night and I can’t stop thinking about it and what could’ve been different.

Been there before.  Time is the only thing that will help it go away.  People say ‘don’t think about’, but that’s sometimes hard to control.  If you keep busy for the next few days, surround yourself with friends or be in public around others at a mall or something, that will help.  If you sit at home with the tv and your thoughts then you’re just asking to dwell about it.

Beating yourself up about it won’t be helpful.  Imagine if you had a friend who regretted something and you were behind her constantly telling her how bad she is for it.  Try not to let your thoughts do that very thing.  Meet yourself with compassion and find a way to forgive the regretful part.  It can still be regretful- but you don’t have to be stuck in the regret.  Use the event as a learning moment and a tool in your toolbox for the future.
