My Bubbalou 💜 My pitty (long post) need advice

So, I’m currently living overseas in military orders and unfortunately I wasn’t able to bring my pitbull or my schnauzer. This story is about my pitbull, we got my pitbull back in 2012 when he was 3 years old, we got him from a friend who was moving to Germany & they do not allow pitbulls where he was staying. Anywho, he received my baby boy and he had a HUGE surgery back in 2013 where they had to open him up; that surgery took a lot of life out of him. Fast forward to now back in July we ended up giving him back to his original owner who we know he’s going to be taking care of very well and loved. We didn’t want to sell him or have him end up in the wrong hands since he’s a purebred & has papers.
So my question is I’m going back to the states in a couple of weeks (where he is at) and I want to see him. Because to be honest I don’t think he’s going to be around for much longer, he’s getting up there in age & I don’t know when I’ll visit the states again. So I feel like I should see him and say my final goodbyes and spend the weekend with him, but I don’t want to cause any anxiety or depression if he sees me. He’s was extremely attached to my husband and I. Letting him go was so hard & he had no idea what was going on when we were leaving, he wanted to jump back in the truck with us. It crushed my heart ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜¢ðŸ˜¢
So should I see my old man or no not really?
