Are you letting your newborn use a pacifier?

Please comment below. I am a FTM with a 12 day old little girl and curious what everyones input is on pacifiers. She refuses to sleep at night unless i hold her and i cant continue sleeping on couch with her. Debating introducting a pacifier to see if it calms her.

We've been using the pacifier since he was a day old. We had no latching problems at all. It helps calm him down and soothe him to sleep.

I wasn't going to use it.. But read a article about pacifiers reducing the chances of SIDS and helping with a baby breathing. I found it really interesting and didn't think much of the pros of using one. So my husband and I might give it a try.

I highly recommend that if the baby refuses it at first you just leave it at that and not force the baby to learn to use it. And I say this because I did continue to teach my baby to want it and regretted it. He hated it but finally accepted it around 2 months. 4 years later, he wouldn't let go. My second son, he refused it from the get-go so I just ditched it since he didn't want it. He ended up never needing it and wasn't fussy at all. He loved little lovey blankets though... I'm not even going to bother with my third. But that's my advice, if they accept it, great! Let them have it, no problem! If they refuse it, just leave it at that and don't force it. :)

My daughter is 4 weeks old - we just started introducing one to her this past week - after we've "mastered" breastfeeding. Before giving it to her we make sure she's not hungry and change her diaper. She won't tolerate it if she is hungry she will also spit it out once shes asleep. My midwife recommended not letting her sleep with it, so we don't have to worry about that... For now.

My baby wasn't interested AT ALL until about 2.5 months. Now she takes one if she's fussy and I've done everything for her first (fed, changed, held, at a good temperature). It usually helps her calm down.

It helps self soothing... They learn to start sucking on whatever they can get (foot, hand, thumb) in the womb so a paci gives them an alternate option on the outside.

I have a couple at home, if we try it and it settles baby, I guess we'll use it?

My baby has acid reflux and that helped sooth her throat since I really didn't want her to over nurse and spit up even more.

It's really up to the baby, if he/she needs it then I'm all for it. I would rather not have my baby be dependent on it but you can usually wean them off by 6 months
