Is 17 too young for an iud??

Question

Im 17 but i have been looking into getting an iud because it seems the most reasonable for me (mostly because i would probably forget to take the pill consistently), but I heard its easier if you’ve already had a baby or something? Can I still get it at 17? Im kind of scared that it will significantly alter my mood or periods though... ugh i dont knowww :(
Also, what brands would you recommend?? Does anyone have any positive feedback from one in particular?

I’m 17 I’ll be 18 next month I just got it and it’s great. I won’t lie it hurt at first and you do get cramps after it but it’s worth it

The skyla is smaller, so it's a good choice when you have never been pregnant. It also has less hormones than mirena. If you think you would forget the pill, an IUD is a good choice I would say. I got the skyla and it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. I'm 27 though. Anyway just ask away if you have questions about skyla!

I got mirena. No problems with it. My doctor told me too take like 3-4 aspirin before hand because it would reduce inflammation afterwards. Insertion was painful but only lasted a coupe minutes. I have no period now but I do get minor spotting occasionally

I think I first got my IUD when I was around 17. I think sometimes doctors will hesitate to give them to teens... I'm not entirely sure why. I LOVE my IUD though. I have the copper one. I got one re inserted after the first one expired. I found that the insertion was definitely not comfortable. I would bring someone with you. Also take some kind of pain killer before going in. sometimes gynecologists will give you a medication to soften up your cervix too. It helps a lot when they insert it. My IUD was super worth it. :)

My mother had the copper coil which is non hormonal and they made her periods a lot heavier and more painful so if you have periods like that anyway then the copper coil is not the one for you. I’m booked in to have the Mirena inserted and my Nexplanon implant removed in a fortnight, hoping it’ll help with my heavy and painful periods. My doctor also said I can be put on the pill for the first few months to help regulate my periods. I’ve got an nhs leaflet on the IUS (the hormonal ones) if you’d like me to send them to you x

Girl, if anything getting on birth control shows that you want to be responsible and in control of what happens with your body. I’m 22 and have the ParaGard, it’s the copper, non-hormonal one. I got it because I suck at remembering the pill and I was tired of feeling like crap everyday with all the hormones. Insertion hurt but if course it does, you’re shoving something into you’re cervix. It feels like intense cramping, though the pain is different for everyone. My periods have always been irregular, a few days early/ late so I can’t really comment on that, however since month 2 it’s come for 6 days, cramps are the WORST and my periods are mad heavy. I always say when I comment on these but I’d get the IUD all over again for the peace of mind I have. 
I also can’t comment on any of the other IUD’s as I’ve never tried them.. but my gynecologist said that Skyla & Kyleena are smaller in size compared to the others, though those have hormones.

Nahh your good. I got mine a month after I turned 17. I won’t lie to you the insertion hurt like hell and I had really bad cramping/pain (cause I never had a baby)but after that everything has been good. I get really light periods(almost like spotting) and my mood hasn’t changed. Plus during sex my partner and I don’t feel anything so we are able to do it comfortably. You should be fine but then again everyone is different. If you decide to get it then wait a minimum of 3 months with it to see if you are comfortable with it and or not. Oh btw the IUD I got was the Mirena😊
