Are you going to have a doula?

Claire
We have decided to have a doula for support during labor and delivery, and I'm just curious who else is planning to use one?

We had some friends who just had a baby. They said in the hospital, they would have been left alone to labor for hours, but they had a doula and felt very comfortable and cared for with her. Labor can be scary for first time moms, so we're going to give it a try.

Yes, we're planning a home birth (2nd one). After our first I realized I had a misconception that the midwives would be doing a lot more "hand holding" - in reality, their job is to make sure mama and baby are safe, not comfortable. That said, we're using a doula this round to make sure all my emotional needs are met (as well as those of my husband and son who will also be there), and to help optimize birthing positions etc. Our doula will also help us create our birthing vision/strategy before labor, and will provide post-partum support including lactation help. Worth the money in my opinion!!

I'm having my bf, the midwife, however many assistants she usually has in the room, and my three best friends (and one significant other) with me. One will be the photographer, one will be the baby's legal guardian (the couple) in case something happens, and the other will be the doula in case I transfer to the hospital. I want my bf to keep his focus on me since that's not where I want to birth and she knows what I want and will stand up to whoever.

I wanted one (and still do) but I can't find one near me that accepts and insurance and it's $800 out of pocket so we just can't afford it comfortably.

I would if I was doing a hospital birth. This time around I went with a midwife at a birth center 😃😃😃 but I think doulas are fantastic!
