Are you a Stay at Home Mom?

Question

If you are, what were the deciding factors for you to be a stay at home mom rather than continue working after leave?

I haven’t had my baby yet, I’m working up until 2 months before my due date. My deciding factors were that my husband would be able to handle all our bills without an issues. Another was that ive always planned on being a stay at home mom and didn’t want to regret working. You can always get a new job, but you can never go back and watch your baby grow up.

I’m actually busting my ass at work to rank up so that, hopefully, my SO can be a stay-at-home dad and focus on his music :)

My husband and I discussed it during premarital counseling. Both of us wanted me to be a sahm. We both believe mothers and fathers give their children the best care, so wanted to do that if possible. He makes plenty for us to live on one income. Prior to having our first, I worked for a Non profit and made a very tiny income, so we didn’t miss it a ton when I quit. Me being a sahm was just a value we shared and wanted to pursue as long as we could. It’s not for everyone, but we love it.

I will be returning to work after my maternity leave because we live in a very expensive city and we wouldn’t be able to support our family on one income. I do live in Canada though so I get to spend my child’s first year at home.

My last day of work is Wednesday, due on the 21st of this month. I plan on being a SAHM mainly because of daycare/babysitter/nanny costs. If I continued working pretty much my salary would be for childcare costs. We can survive comfortably on just my husband’s income and I’ll get the added benefit of raising my own kids instead of someone else doing it and being the ones to witness majority of their firsts.

I worked full time with baby #1, part time with baby#2 and ultimately quit after going back to work for a few months (tried part time but my company basically expected me to do a full time job part time hours and pay). 
By the time I paid for child care for 2 kids and taxes,  I was making like $4 an hour. I was also burned out by my field that I had been in for over 12 years, so being out of the workplace for awhile and not being able to go back to my industry was not an issue for me.

kinda. I'll be working part time. 2-3 days around 20 hours. 
but I'm a Nanny for two two year olds, and I can take my baby when I go back to work. 
it will be tight $ wise, but this gives us just a little kick more.

I love being at home with my children,  I get to spend every moment and not miss anything. It wasn't always like this though,  I worked 2 jobs and was barely there at one point but when I was pregnant with my 4th, my husband said I should just stay home and go back to school like I've always wanted. I'm now one year away from my degree and I can't wait to go back out to work,  bitter sweet tho because I now have a 5th baby,  been home for 5yrs and I'm half way not ready to go back out into to hustle and bustle. Good thing I still have another year.
