What is blighted ovum ive seen that on here a couple times and I have no idea what it is..?

Answer

It is when an egg gets fertilised and implants but is not viable for pregnancy, ie. There's something wrong with it. It never actually develops into anything, just stays as a "broken egg". Unfortunately you'd still get a positive on a pregnancy test and may have symptoms. Usually the egg is miscarried and if we didn't know we were pregnant, may assume it was a late and heavy period. Sometimes they are not miscarried and not picked up until an ultrasound. It was one of my fears in the first trimester!

Answer

It's where the embryo doesn't develop properly. You still have all the symptoms and hormones of pregnancy, but when they do the ultrasound, the gestational sac is empty. Mine happened somewhere between 7-10 weeks, but my first ultrasound wasn't until 10 weeks, so I didn't know until then. My hcg levels were low, and they were slowly dropping, so I had a D&C.
