Supervisor rant

Jasmine

I just need to vent because this whole situation is driving me crazy.

I started working for a group home back in January. I’m the supervisor at the home, which means I’m directly supervising a team fully staffed at 7 people. For some reason my last 2 overnights have been extremely lazy and refuse to clean. My cleaning list is very basic for all of my staff and I’ve had team meetings, and addressed cleaning in multiple occasions including twice 1:1 with my overnight.

He did not improve at all and on top of that when I come in in the mornings not only is the house not cleaned, but he’s actually laying on the couch playing his iPad.

I addressed this and a few other concerns about him as my supervisor originally refused to hire him on as a full time staff until I absolutely needed an overnight ( I’m currently pregnant, and I’ve had some issues with HG that require me to take zofran scheduled) and can’t work overtime.

My supervisor himself micromanages the fuck out of me to the point where I don’t even see the point in me being called a supervisor because he tries to control so much of what I do and how I do it (can’t just find coverage to go to my doctors appointment, I have to request the time off and wait to see if he approves my time which is already just dependent on me having someone to cover my shift, have to let him know when I’m leaving and coming back from grocery shopping for the house, or supply shopping, or dropping off forms or meds to another house or even just when and how I order meds for the residents. Mind you I’ve been doing the same work for 3 years, and my boss spends most of his day golfing or going out to eat with his best friend during work hours with company money). And because he’s so micromanagey I asked him specifically what to do with this staff because he’s consistently not cleaning and cleaning is basically his only job since my residents go to bed hours before he comes in. My supervisor asked me to have a conversation with him. Did that on a Monday. Friday rolls around and he hasn’t cleaned anything and there’s even been pee found on the floor after his shift when he claims he completed cleaning. I had another conversation with him asking what the issue was and letting him know that all of the cleaning needed to be done and he also needed to complete inventory, which he pretended not to know about.

Friday rolls around again and my supervisor again comments that nothing looks clean literally minutes after my overnight left for the day. I again let him know I’ve talked to the guy twice and nothings improved. He told me to write the guy up. So I did. For some reason I thought it’d go different than the last time he told me to write up the staff for not doing their job. Nope, staff complained and instead of my supervisor saying well you need to be cleaning he instead goes “well overnights are hard to come by, we know he doesn’t clean” like ??? Then what did you tell me to write him up for??

Well today was my review, and I got a good review in every category except staff relations. He said that I need to work on building a relationship with staff and that he thinks I don’t talk to my staff effectively because one fucking staff won’t do his damn job. He said in his interviews this staff said I don’t talk to him and I avoid being around him. My supervisor KNOWS this guy has extremely strong body odor and has been asked by multiple different supervisors ( on my current level) to speak with him about his odor. I’m pregnant! I will literally throw up with how strong his odor is. Personally I think it’s much more unprofessional to gag every time someone’s near you than to politely avoid them but what the fuck ever.

It’s so fucking frustrating that I never made any decisions to write him up without my supervisor saying yes that’s a good idea, this person claims he cleans after my supervisor comments on how it looks dirty after his shifts, and suddenly it’s me instead of the fact that he keeps changing his mind about how i do things he ENCOURAGED me to do.
