They're here! They're here! They're here!
So our birth wasn't what we planned or expected, but it was still beautiful and we were still able to have a vaginal delivery! We almost had two different birthdays! Claire Elise was born at 11:29pm, 5 lb, 14oz, 19 in long, and Carmen Grace was born at 11:54pm, 6 lb even, 19 in long. June 17th, the day before our 4 year wedding anniversary!
Had to be induced Tuesday night (high BP and protein in urine). Was NOT expecting to be told that at the doctor visit Tuesday morning. Labored on pitocin for 18 hours before taking the epidural, and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. The twins had to be monitored continuously and the only way they could track their heart rates was if I was completely still on my back in the bed....YEAH NOT GONNA HAPPEN IN ACTIVE LABOR. After only progressing to 7cm, I couldn't take being on my back anymore, so I called for the epidural. The relief and REST I got before pushing was indescribable. I honestly don't think I could have gotten through delivery without having that rest period. Progressed pretty quickly to 10cm and started pushing at 10pm and my girls were here at 11:29 and 11:54. Claire was sunny side up and gave me a 2nd degree tear. Carmen came out face-down.
Delivery of placentas was most painful. They were like a cork with all the blood behind them and it was the most intense and unbearable pain I've ever felt in my life. Both came out at the same time--what relief!!!!
Both babies had great apgar scores (9.9 and 8.9) and came home with us 2 days later. We are still figuring out this nursing thing, but it's getting better every day!
