Is it bad to throw your own baby shower?

I’m a single mother with not many friends or family. I feel like if I want to have a baby shower to make sure I have the things I need for the baby, I should be able to have one and not have to wait for someone to do it for me. I feel like it if someone thinks it’s “tacky” or “impolite” then that’s the type of person I don’t want around anyway.

I don't think baby showers should be looked at as a way to get the things you need. they should be able celebrating your baby. sounds selfish when put that way

I love how everyone commenting and bashing is clearly NOT a single parent. Taking care of a baby completely alone and financially doing it all alone is one of the hardest things to do. And if having a party to celebrate the baby and get stuff is selfish? Who cares. Take all the help you can get.

I don’t think it’s tacky but one thing I do believe is that i shouldn’t rely on others to purchase the things I need. If you’re struggling financially to buy your baby’s essentials, you can always look at second hand stores or just more affordable options.

It's only tacky if you go into it expecting people to buy you gifts or thinking that you deserve gifts. Just throwing a shower as a celebration of the pregnancy and the growing baby is not tacky at all!

I do not think it's tacky. However a lot of people don't buy from the registry, a lot of people get clothes and little trinkets. So if money spent on the shower will deplete money needed to buy baby's things, I wouldn't do it. Not tacky to host your own, though.

I through my own baby shower with my first I had a list of things I needed and would like. I found it really helpful for getting items that we needed and I had some people group up and get me one item or so. As I didn’t have a lot of money it was a simple party with my loved ones. But nobody cared as it was a gathering of people who loved me and were just as excited about the baby as we were. i say go for it and just dismiss any comments that are negative. As they don’t know you or your situation.
