Working Until Delivery Date?

Question

I'm a FTM and was wondering others' thoughts or experiences. I want to work as late as possible in order to maximize time home with the baby. I realize my question may be ignorany, but idk what to expect. If I began labor at wirk, would I have time to get to the hospital? Guess I'm paranoid about delivering at work. How likely is that? Is it best to work a few days prior to EDD?

If you are taking disability you get 4 weeks before and 6-8 weeks after. That 6-8 weeks after is all you get regardless of whether or not you took the time before. I would check with you companies policy, my company only allows me to take 12 weeks leave total. Also keep in mind there is a 10 or 12 day waiting period before you can be paid benefits. My company also required me to use all my sick time while Im out on "disability" this time is helpful though in assuring I have no pay gap in between sick time a disability pay.

I don't think it's likely at all you would deliver at work. Unless you went to work after having labored for hours already. I'm almosr 38 weeks and have been working full time since the beginning. It's been hard but will be so worth it to have all the time saved!

My mom was at work when she went into labor with me and with my sibling she worked up until the day she went into labor. I plan to do the same thing.

With my first I worked until the day I got induced (I was a week overdue). I got off work at 6am after working a 12 hour shift and went in 6pm to get induced. It can happen.

Girl, as long as your body (and baby) let's you continue what you're doing with no pain, and you won't get hurt, go for it. I'm exactly like you, and would rather work until baby is born. I did that with both my babies and tried with this one, but she wouldn't allow it lol. 
I was working in construction when pregnant with my first baby, but with me being one of the few females, the guys already would take over the heavy stuff for me, so when the news came out, it wasn't hard to switch over. I ended up doing the light work and mostly detail and some decorating, then once I felt I should move over, they had me working in the office until baby was born.
With my second, I was a teacher's assistant, so it was much easier for me. I stayed my last month working side by side with my sub so she could learn the ropes, and really I was only gone from work maybe a month or less. 
This pregnancy, we suspect that baby is big, and I'm more tired than usual, so I actually took my leave already. Such a bummer, because I'd rather do it after baby is here, but it's just not happening that way this time.

I am working as close to delivery as possible. They are only planning on 6 weeks of me being gone. So that starts when I leave. Plus I am not getting paid while I'm gone. But luckily they want me back so I have job security.

If you have sick days at work usually you have to use those up before you can use your temporary disability leave so factor that in too. I decided to take off 2 weeks before my due date, but I'm not going back.

I worked on my delivery dates both times.  I wouldn't do it any other way since maternity leave is a joke in this country unless you have a generous employer.

I worked up until the day before I delivered with my last pregnancy. I delivered at 35 weeks. sex had brought on labor lol my baby was 5 lbs and ready for home thankfully

All of my co-workers worked until they delivered. One had her water break at work. Lucky for all of us, she was in the bathroom when it happened (hardwood instead of carpet!)

If you take time before at my company that counts as part of the 12 or 6 weeks your taking. I'm gonna be working until I give birth.
