We are only almost 6 weeks pregnant, and decided to tell one of my close friends today. So he was all excited and congratulating us and my husband decided to say "and we want you to be the godfather!" out of fucking nowhere! This was never a discussion, in fact I've told him before we were ever even pregnant that I wouldn't want godparents for our future children. Of course my friend was ecstatic to hear that and I couldn't just say "uh no?" through all of their excitement and chatter. I am so furious. Then to top it off, he tells him (also without discussing it with me) that If we're able to find a 3 bedroom apartment or something sometime soon that he can come live with us?? I've told him before that I wanted one and what for, and that wasn't it. My friend is currently unemployed and very antisocial. He plays computer games and streams it on twitch and that's how he makes the money he has. He is living with his mom and sister which is totally no big deal but not someone I would dub the godfather if I even wanted one! Why put that on someone who can't afford to provide for themself?? He wouldn't be able to care for the baby if something ever happened to us?? And we aren't religious so there really is no other reason to have a godfather... It just made me so fucking angry for him to randomly make big choices like that for our child without even discussing it first. And I don't know how to tell my friend that it isn't gonna happen... Believe me my husband and I already talked about it as soon as we left. I just don't know what to tell my friend without being a dick and going "hey so I don't want a godfather for the baby" like what on earth do I say and do?? Please any advice is appreciated.
