I don't get the trend of waiting for the placenta to fall off. even wild animals chew off the cord.

The placenta serves no purpose after it has been delivered. It's literally a rotting organ. Don't leave that attached to your baby.

We did delayed cord clamping so all the blood and nutrients were absorbed by the baby, until the cord stopped pulsating and turned white. After that, it's a dead organ and you best believe I didn't leave my child attached to a decaying organ.
