Lip tie?

Is this a lip tie? Should I be concerned? Will she need to have this fixed?

Yes that’s definitely a tie! Does she have any issues nursing? I would have it evaluated by a pediatric dentist, they’ll normally do free consultations and their diagnosis is a lot more accurate than a pedi or OB. Typically babies with lips ties also have tongue ties, but not always. My daughter had both corrected (laser) at 2 weeks old! Feel free to ask any questions!

My nephew has a lip tie and he is 2 years old. According to their pediatrician, it usually will break (from a fall most often), but if it doesn’t by the time he is 5, they will fix it.

So tongue ties are more of an issue than lip ties. Tongue ties stop the tongue from lifting and being able to manouvre properly and are either a class 1-4 if present. 
Lip ties however are not a “if they have it” thing but more so just a classification system for how the lip is attached to the gums. Some babies with class 1 will have no issues and some will have all of the issues and the same with the other types. It also why when some people smile you can see miles of gum compared to those who don’t show much if any. 
Basically if it’s causing issues look at getting it evaluated. If it’s not then don’t worry. All babies technically have a lip tie because it’s just how it connects and the classification describes how that connection is made

My daughter had a lip tie and we used a nipple shield until we could figure out how to nurse in the best way, then when she started trying to walk she fell and it broke which is common!
