I’ve always raised my kids to say yes sir, no ma’am, etc. The other day my child was talking to this older lady in Cracker Barrel and she asked him if he was excited about a sibling (I’m pregnant) and he said “oh yeah” and started smiling. She came over to me and said “he needs to learn to say yes ma’am”.

I was pretty shocked because

1. I do raise them to say ma’am/sir but he was excited and probably didn’t think

2. Why try to parent other children?

What are your thoughts on children calling elders/people in general ma’am or sir?

Is it necessary?
