Am I doing it wrong??

I recently got a tattoo on Sunday, and for the past TWO DAYS I’ve been putting on too much ointment (Aquaphor) it’s still the second day and I just now realized I’m only supposed to be putting on a THIN layer of ointment. Will this effect the tattoo? I’ve been washing it 3 times a day and it’s starting to itch, which I understand is normal. Its my first tattoo and I would really appreciate the help please

I'm at tattoo artist and try not too put too much on but it most likely won't effect your tattoo either way. but everyone heals different. some people don't even need ointment but others do. it all depends on the persons skin. and I will usually only use ointment on any of my tattoo for the first couple days. after that I only use ointment if it gets extremely dry. usually tattoo artists will let you come back for a free touch up if any ink comes out in some spots. just make sure you don't pick at it if it gets dry and starts flaking!! good luck girl!!

whoa whoa whoa. yes you do need to keep it moisturized, but just a thin layer. You DO NOT want it to scab, when it scabs it can cause scars. so far it looks good. I know it itches, but don't scratch it, just keep it moisturized and clean and it will heal just fine.
