Is it possible for exes to be friends?

9 months ago me and my boyfriend broke up and he moved away to another state. When we broke up he said the same thing they always say when 2 people break up which is “I still wanna be friends” Every time someone says that I know they don’t mean it and it’s just a nice way of letting me down. He claims it would be different and he still cares about me just not in the way I want him to. Sometimes I get a hold of him whenever he’s on my mind and the conversations are always short. I also tell him I miss him and he never says anything or acknowledges whenever I say it. I wanna know can exes still be friends?

No they can’t, my husbands ex thought they would be friends forever. She would always message him and remind him of the past. To me as his new gf, that was sooo annoying. Anyways he finally blocked her.

It just depends on the people.. but yes it’s very possible. However if you still have feelings then you just need to step away because you can’t be a friend. He’s probably cutting it short because when you guys talk you go further than a friend convo with saying you miss him. So his reaction is normal but so is yours as you can’t help how you feel & you just need to say it. I know, I’ve been there. But he seems sure of this decision so for your own hearts safety I’d say just stay away & focus on healing & moving on.

Yes it’s possible. I’m friends with most of my exes. Or, at least we’re on good enough terms than talking to each other casually isn’t an issue. I’m not best friends with any of them, but we’re friendly enough to each other. I’ll say that the only exception is my “one that got away.” We still have some same friends so once in a while we’ll be around each other but he’s the only one I can’t talk to or be friends with cause I just can’t do it.
