Lunch meat posts??

I see a lot of posts about lunch meat. I was under the impression cold cuts were fine. Can someone explain this to me.

You’re more likely to get sick from poorly washed veggies than you are from deli meat.

Still don’t want to risk it just cause google says something different than my doctor has been tellling me. I trust my doctor more than the internet. And I know listeria isn’t even common but it’s just something I don’t feel comfortable risking

I've literally never heard of anyone being told this in Ireland. It seems to be a big thing with Americans, but everyone still eats deli meats here.

hmmm it is definitely good to be careful with deli meats because we have had like 3 outbreaks of listeria in packaged deli meat in the last month lol. i always heat it up as an extra precaution.

My doctor told me that lunch meat isn’t that dangerous in pregnancy anymore. I went to Italy during my pregnancy and ate a lot of deli meats and sea foods.

its also the nitrates that people avoid.

Packaged may be safer than from the deli. The deli meat is opened and sits out. If you do get deli meat, you can just heat it up and it’s safe to eat. Same goes for sandwich shops. Their meat is typically exposed to the air.
