Miss my friend

I’ve had a gay male best friend for the last 3 years I met through work. We have had quite an intense friendship and recently we had imo a small fallout because I decided not to have people at work on Facebook and he unfriended me. He blocked me off everything and only made contact again a week later when he suffered a shock bereavement and he is away staying with a friend. He is quite dramatic and it has been said he’s also very manipulative.

Anyway I have been supportive, he has sent messages, I’ve missed a couple of calls and he hasn’t answered when I’ve called. We addressed the Facebook thing and now we are friends on there again. He has sent a couple of vague messages rather than replying to me. But he’s grieving so I don’t mind.

Anyway, out of nowhere last night he messaged me as below and I’m heart broken. I’ve been friend dumped essentially. We already had dinner plans in for next week when he’s back and I’m confused as to why he wants to keep them. Wouldn’t it be easier to just let me go?
