thoughts on large age gaps in couples?

I recently started seeing a man that's 17 years older ( I'm 25 and he's 42). I haven't told many people about it because people are super judgy. my mom called today and asked what I did for dinner the night before and I told her that I went out with him and her response was " I don't know why you're spending time with a man so much older. that's wrong. I'm not coming to your wedding" ... I was kinda hurt, we're not super serious but he's an absolutely amazing person and he honestly has more energy than I do! I'm very mature for my age and I have a very hard time dating people my age. the worst part is my mom knows all the shitty relationships I've been in. i kinda feel like she would rather see me unhappy.

My husband is 9.5 years older than me with a 10 year old son, when my mom first found out about him she did NOT approve at all, for the first couple of years actually. I thought that she would never like him or approve of my relationship with him. Now she adores him. She tells her neighbors what a great son in law he is. If this man is who you are supposed to be with then time will tell and your mom will just have to accept it. 😊🤞🏻

I’m 38 and my fiancé is 24. I would have never thought it would work but I can’t imagine being with anyone else. He is perfect for me and I am very happy with him. Everyone in our lives has been so supportive and it has never been an issue. Most people are surprised to hear there is even a 14 year age gap. If it’s the right person, age doesn’t matter!

people can be very judgemental which they obviously don't think before they make comments and don't realize what they say can hurt but in all honesty the only thing that should matter is how u feel about the situation and it's not always bad to see someone who is older I'll be 25 here in September and my boyfriend is almost 31 not quit the age gap you have but it's still 6 years difference and I'm just like you I've always been mature for my age and after my ex which he was 8 months younger than me I decided to try going alil older and honestly the guy I'm with now is so much better than my ex he treats me so much better than I've ever been treated. it's like the saying goes men mature much slower than women. do what makes you happy and hopefully if things work out your mom will come around

ive been dating a guy 9 years older then me since i was 18, 10 years ago. when i was 18 it seemed weird but as we got older it seems more acceptable to people. my mom actually is now with a guy 30 years older then her. she gets ridiculed a lot. shes been with him since 2001. people say she has a daddy complex or shes waiting for him to die. keep taking it slow. it all boils down to what makes you truly happy. will it continue making you happy. down the line do you see it really working. i see nothing wrong with it but a lot of people will. you just have to let the criticism slide off your shoulders. your mom may come around eventually but she might see it as him taking advantage of you. it is cliche to see older men with much younger women and to see younger women with older men as girls who are out for money and such. if you like him and he treats you right thats what counts.
