Did you hire a doula for your VBAC?

Question

The hospital and OB we’re using are very encouraging and supportive of VBACs but have been realistic with me about chances that I may need another cesarean. I am hoping having a doula would help me have a successful vaginal birth but I’m nervous about spending $1000 and ending up with another c-section. Help me decide! Any pros or cons? Stories? Thank you!!

For my first vbac I did hire a doula. I felt that it helped me mentally and it helped my husband not feel so helpless. It definitely empowered both of us. And I learned a lot more. I’m hoping for another vbac. Due any day. Not using a doula this time so I don’t know how I feel about that yet because I think it will depend on the outcome. I hope we don’t regret not hiring one.

We had a doula for our VBAC. Was a successful VBAC but not sure if it was because of the doula per se. She gave lots of encouragement and also helped with my labor positions though!!

I had a successful vba2c and will have my 2nd any day now... I love my doula. She is so supportive and knowledgeable... I do not need to google all this crap going on with me because she knows all about it already... even if it does end in csection she will be totally worth the money... she has a magic bag full of tricks that she knows perfectly how to use for labor pain relief... and besides that just her presence alone gives me a feeling of peace. I know I would have panicked and ended up requesting drugs if it wasn’t for her! I would highly recommend hiring a doula, no matter how many times you’ve given birth.... they make the whole experience so much better!

I honestly can say that if you have a really good support team then don’t spend the money. I will be going for my second VBAC after my second CS this June ( if she stays in there that long. 😂) and will not have a doula. I will have my mother, my sister, and my husband for support and I feel very comfortable with that. I have watched tons of videos and read tons of articles. Made a Pinterest boards to revisit and feel confident in myself that I can accomplish his. I think it’s up to you though  You know yourself best. If you think you need the extra support of an outside source then go for it. Personally I think it’s a waste of money in my opinion. Plus I heard you only ever see a doula 3 times in your entire pregnancy and that to me is not supportive.
