I gave birth to my son without drugs in an American hospital, and was very unhappy with all of the limitations and liability issues. This time around, I am using a midwife and will take hypnobirthing classes, giving birth in the water at a birth center. 
My hope here is not to judge anyone - particularly anyone who is high risk or who has medical issues - but to make sure everyone is educated on the risks and issues with getting induced and with getting painkillers. 
We agonize for 9 months over not drinking alcohol, eating raw fish, drinking enough water and not too much caffeine, etc. Then you go to Labor and Delivery and get injected will all sorts of crap while your baby is still attached. It's ridiculous.
Plus a lot of things at hospital births are designed for the doctor's convenience - laying on your back strapped to a bed, covered in monitors, unable to eat or drink, and even the bed design is for the doctor. 
Don't get me wrong - OBs and hospital births can be great and accommodating. It just makes me sad that women aren't involved actively in learning about all the drugs, tools, complications, etc. So many women just plan on walking in and getting the epidural. Do you know what can happen to you or baby?  What if you can't get it or it doesn't work?
Yes I've done the same research with my water birth so don't worry. 😃 My goal here is to open up a calm, helpful dialogue about your options for your birth. I would love to help!  I'm very passionate about this and can't wait to give birth to my daughter. 😍😊

My mother gave birth to 4 children all without pain medicine in a hospital. She was 1981-21, 1983-23, 1991-31, 1992-32 (we all have the same father Lol). I plan to not take the epidural. I would like minimal (unless necessary) medical interference.

I'm giving birth at a birth center that's in a hospital(obviously if every thing goes right). I'm super happy because I get the natural not crazy hospital feel, but I'm in a hospital. The bed is a queen bed and I can give birth in whatever position I want. I'm super excited (:

I'm not sure what really to vote. I appreciate your intelligent comment, but it's so scary either way. With my first, I was so terrified that I actually forced my doctor to schedule a csection as if there was no other possible way for it to work. I cancelled the day before the appointment because I realized that I was hoping for it to happen all on its own. I was in labor for 4 hours on my own until they decided to go through petocin and epidural. I know what labor feels like but as far as the baby coming out, I had to get an episiotomy and I don't know if I could've handled that without an epidural. My daughter is 3 an can have highly complex conversations in both English and Bosnian and has an incredible memory... I don't see any effect from the epidural. So I'm not sure if it's really a matter of the negative effects of an epidural or my own desire to earn the battle scar having done it naturally.

I will take any drug they will give me. If they offer me LSD, I'm taking it. Needless to say. I will not be having a drug free birth if I have anything to say about it. :D

I delivered my first via an augmented labor (water broke, contractions didn't get the hint) it was long.... 2nd delivery, calm as a cucumber.... Labor lasted 5 hours with a cough to get her out.
Praying my namaste techniques work with delivering this Surro babe for his family.im a firm believer that panic plays a LARGE part in pain. I've run a few marathons and trained myself to stay calm in the midst of pain. I truly feel that's the key to success. Letting your body be relax to do what it needs to do. Vaginas do open. Babies do come out is my motto!

I have neurofibromatosis.... basically ny body makes tumors on/in nerves AND my nerves are larger than they should be which results in them being more sensitive. So pain is worse for me. .... so yeah drug me up.

I think what I worry most about (reading other moms' comments in this and other pregnancy apps) is the mom who just plans on waltzing in and getting an epidural. She isn't prepared to work through labor and has no back up plan. What if it's too late for the epidural (i.e. she progressed too fast)?  What if it fails?  She hasn't prepared to work through contractions and now is in a horrible position. And let's not forget that your baby is still attached to you so your stress, breathing, hydration, everything going into your system does get to baby. 
So my goal here is just to help women be aware and educated on what they plan to do. The epidural slows/stops contractions. So there's a high chance you'll get pitocin, whose job it is to mimic contractions (but of course does it through chemicals).  Those are super painful so you'll probably up the epidural. Etc etc etc until your heart rate goes up, or baby's goes down, and you have to have a C section.

With my first I had an epidural, and it was the worst decision ever. Being totally numb couldn't even move my legs and not being able to take care of him like I wanted to right after really sucked. and it messed up my back for a year. My mom had two babies naturally I know I can do it too I am very excited this time around
