What should we do about day care

Me and my husband and I met at our work and the shifts go by seniority. Some people have been at my job since 1970! Way before we were born... we can’t work opposite shifts or have weekends off. I’m pregnant now and can’t afford to lose my job. We’re due in October. We make a decent amount of money. Not great, but maybe about 90K between the two of us. Anyways, both of my parents work, so they can never really help with day care and his parents live out of state. I’m really worried about what I will do about child care. Most places are catered to people who work day shift, we don’t get off until 11pm! Any ideas? I’m really nervous about hiring a nanny, I’ve seen too many abusive nannies caught on tape. I just feel so stuck and it’s hard to enjoy this pregnancy knowing I will have to deal with this. Any advise?

I would honestly weigh out how much money per month you'd spend on childcare vs how much you'll be bringing home. with my husband and I we realized child care is almost as much as a 3rd income. i wouldn't be bringing much home at the end of the month so decided to be a stay at home. you can try doing small from home stuff to bring in a buck or two. or go part time.

Is it possible for you to quit when the baby is born and then find a new job soon after (when you are ready)? My husband and I were in the same situation and trying to organize schedules (mostly 2nd shift and weeekends) was just too difficult, even when both of our families were offering to help. I ended up quitting and planned on finding something new. I ended up becoming a nanny and I bring my son with me now. There just aren't enough options out there for daycare when it comes to odd hours. Good luck!

dont know what area you live in but military areas usually have alot of 24 hour day cares. i live in a big one so we have hundreds of them. i would look for military or 24 hour in home day care. best option for what yall may be trying to work out.

but even though you've heard bad things, give. nanny a try. just like there are bad cases in daycare. 
not all of us nannies are bad! not trying to too my own horn but if you called my employer they would rave about me. just do your research with a person. ask for a background check. did they go to school for childcare? CPR, water safety, nanny experience, daycare experience?

Set up cameras that record throughout your house and streams to your phone and be open about it. It will deter anyone who is even thinking of being abusive. Either that or unfortunately one of you will need to quit or find a different position. I do know that my friend hired a nanny and they make around $14 an hour so for the year it was about $30k....if your salary is about $40-45 it may not be worth it unless your field is hard to get back into once you take time off.

I've always had difficult jobs with unpredictable hours. First being military then being a correctional officer working 12hr night shifts. So I get how you feel. I was always concerned about people watching my kids too a little more concerned for my biracial kids than my straight white kids. Just because there's so many racist people out there. What I did was I used care.com They do background checks and you can find someone to come to your home to watch your child. Set up some nanny or security cameras. I have some in my home so I can literally log onto to a computer or check my phone and see what's going on. I always let them know too they're being watched. I feel like people will act better anyway if they know. Good luck I hope things work out.
