What to do with my dog during labour?!

What are you ladies doing with your pets while you are in the hospital? My partner and I recently moved states and don't know anyone or have any family close by who could look after our dog. There's no way we could leave her at the house for long periods of time either. I've contacted a couple of dog kennels but they've been less then helpful. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and starting to stress out!

Go to vets or pet food stores, they often have referral for dog sitters. You can meet some of them with your pup and decide which one would suit him best and try a trial day. That’s how I found my amazing dog sitter and she will be the one taking care of my fur baby once labor starts.

With my first my husband ran home every 6ish hours. I didn’t want hospital food so I had him run out and grab food/let the dogs out. Longest stretch was 8 hours (which is the max for our guys) and they did just fine! He would hang out with them for 10 mins and leave.

Currently we plan on my husband running home for bathroom breaks. If I have to be in the hospital longer then a night I might have my brother stay with my dogs or even have my husband go home and possibly have my mom stay in the hospital with me.

My husband will go home at night to sleep and tend to the dogs, take them to the bathroom in the morning, then go to the hospital a few hours and go back home to let them out and so on, I'll be in the hospital a few days for a c section. We leave the garage open for them in case they have to go potty...gross but it is better for them to pee on the concrete down there than on our carpet. You can hire a dog sitter or walker. We plan on leaving her home for the nights while we are in the hospital, and then my family stopping by and letting her outside or taking her to their house for the day and then back home. Since we can’t leave her out and about in the house while we’re gone (she’s a rescue and gets anxiety when she’s alone) we have to lock her in a crate. I’m a little worried but fingers crossed she’ll be fine because we’re having a baby tomorrow!

My in-laws came up last time but we also had neighbors offer to let them in and out. My husband made a trip or two back, too. Our hospital is about 45 min from the house so him going back frequently wasn't super viable.
