Someone cheats and when the SO finds out they go out and cheat to get payback.

Cheating because you got cheated on is not a justification. If you wanted “payback” you could have simply left the person because the relationship is toxic either way.

If it’s ‘revenge’ cheating I think it makes you both as bad as each other in my opinion, ide rather split up and have my dignity knowing I wasnt in the wrong.

Both equally wrong. sinking to someone else's level "just because" is never ok. IMO that shows the person's true colors, and shows that they were no better than the cheater deep down anyway. Sorta a case of "Wow. you guys deserve each other"..
