Allow, yes. Like, no. Is it God’s ideal, no. However, ancient slavery was very different from modern slavery. Ancient slavery in that time was more akin to employee/employer relationship. There was no racial issues and abuse was highly frowned upon (though, it was there still). Modern slavery was evil and led to a lot more evil.

It is hard to as what the Bible says, because it is a book written by many people over many centuries who had many reasons for writing. At first glance, it would appear that many of the biblical authors condoned, or at least passively accepted slavery. This fit into their cultural worldview. But the cool thing about society and the Bible and how the two interact with each other is that the morality of human civilization and the revelation of God is constantly unfolding. Jesus has so many “You have heard it said... but I say”. It’s astonishing. The human code of conduct seems to build. So though slavery may have been acceptable to certain biblical writers at the time, I think it’s totally fair to look back now and say, “no, owning another human being is absolutely reprehensible behavior” because God is constantly revealing himself.

No it doesn’t. Yes they did have slaves and do a lot of bad things in the Old Testament but in the New Testament those things weren’t allowed.
